Klaus Schafler

Vienna based artist and curator Klaus Schafler studied art at Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, economics at University Graz and political science at Facolta di Scienze Politiche Messina. His art-based research and projects mainly refer to the notion of public sphere and to phenomena of transition in different geo-political frameworks, sub-urban and rural settings by working in various formats including site-specific installations, performative interventions in public space, and staged lectures. He was also co-curator of artist-collective K.U.L.M. with projects in the Austrian countryside including collaborations with the festival steirischer herbst.
Currently, he is also co-running Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna, where we try to develop new formats for experimental presentations, interdisciplinary collaborations and an artist-in-residence programme. He was fellow resident with LMCC, New York and visiting critic at ART OMI, and co-initiated the collaborative project ’Grammar of Urgencies’, currently researching on ´Fleeting Territories´.
